Marathon OPP Recover Stolen Vehicle
MARATHON ON –F riday March 27, 2015 officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marathon/Manitouwadge detachment received a report of a thief of fuel from Walsh’s Esso in White River ON. A vehicle description as well as a license plate number was provided to police. A check of the vehicle revealed that it was recently reported stolen from the Sudbury area.
The vehicle was located travelling west on Highway 17 near the junction of Highway 614. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop at which time the driver began trying to evade police. After a brief pursuit the driver lost control due to road conditions and drove into the ditch. One male exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended and arrested within a short distance. A second male was removed from the vehicle without incident and placed under arrest.
Driver – Lance Justin William DANDY, a 25 year old male from Ajax ON. was arrested and charged with,
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000 – CC Sec 354(1)(a)
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle – CC Sec 249(1)(a)
- Flight while being pursued by a police officer – CC Sec 249.1(1)
- Resist Peace Officer – CC Sec 129(a)
- Obstruct Peace Officer – CC Sec 129(a)
- Theft of Motor Vehicle – CC 333.1
Passenger – Michael MALLETTE, a 22 year old male from Port Perry ON. was arrested and charged with,
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000.
Both parties were held at the Marathon OPP detachment for a video Bail Hearing and later transferred to Thunder Bay District Jail in custody awaiting further court appearances on March 31, 2015.
