OFSC Issues Caution Advisory for Southern Ontario
BARRIE, ON – Northeastern and North Central Ontario are the best places to go snowmobiling during Spring Break and until the end of the sledding season. Cold temperatures and good snow have kept snowmobile trails in great shape there and grooming operations are continuing.
As of today, most snowmobile trails in Northeastern and North Central Ontario are listed as “Green”, meaning available to ride. Meanwhile, snowmobile trails in the southern parts of the province have deteriorated significantly during the past week due to unseasonably warm days.
The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) is advising snowmobilers to check its Interactive Trail Guide for updated trail status before entering any OFSC Prescribed Trail, to snowmobile with extra care and caution during spring riding conditions, and to stay off of any trails showing as “Red” (Unavailable). Snowmobilers are also being advised to avoid ice crossings in areas where conditions are becoming increasingly unpredictable and risky, as no ice there can be considered safe.
With milder temperatures forecast to continue into next week for Southern Ontario, sledding opportunities will become even more limited in many of these regions, so the OFSC is inviting snowmobilers to head north for great Spring Break sledding.
