Hospice Northwest Volunteers Enhancing Quality of Life in Manitouwadge (incl.video)

MANITOUWADGE, ON – As of January 1st, 2015, the Hospice Northwest – Manitouwadge program is up and running, ready to match it’s volunteers with clients.  The program is being hosted by the Manitouwadge Family Health Team with Program Coordinators Treena Roberts and hospicenorthwest-logoAmanda Warford working diligently since last September; recruiting 9 volunteers who successfully completed a comprehensive 8 week training program.  Roberts and Warford also needed to define particulars of the Manitouwadge program as determined by the needs identified within the community.

Hospice Northwest’s website explains their services as follows:

“Our goal is to assist and encourage the individual and family in order to enhance the quality of life. Trained volunteers provide support in the home, hospitals and long-term care facilities, at no cost to the individual or family. This support is available to persons who are ill, family members and friends, as well as bereaved persons who have experienced the death of a loved one.”

“We comply with all current principles of palliative care service, and collaborate with other palliative care providers in Thunder Bay and District to ensure an effective, holistic approach to client care.”

Thanks in large part to the volunteers involved, all Hospice Northwest programs and services are available with no fee.

The interview below [02:45] is the first in OntarioNewsNorth.com’s Hospice Northwest – Manitouwadge series with Program Coordinator Treena Roberts.  In this introductory video Roberts explains the basics of the program, elaborating briefly on how and who Hospice Northwest – Manitouwadge will help.
