MARATHON, ON  – The Marathon Fire Department is pleased to announce the graduation of Jaedyn Senden from their first Fire Cadet Program.

In January of 2014 four local teenagers joined the Cadet Program.  Two of the cadets began college in the fall of 2014 and moved to Thunder Bay and one left the area leaving Jaedyn (age 17) to continue on.

The Fire Cadet Program gives high school students between the ages of 16 and 18 the opportunity to train side by side with new firefighter recruits learning the same skills. After writing her level one exam Jaedyn said, “My experience as a cadet has been amazing. I have been able to do hands on work and take part in scenarios with experienced firefighters.  This past year I was constantly encouraged by other firefighters to keep pushing myself to succeed. It is great to have a program like this for people in my age group, to have the chance to feel what it is like to be a part of a team and a chance to learn and perform new skills.”
