Best Start Buzz
It’s been an exciting start to a new year at Best Start where we provide quality programs and services to support families and their children in an inclusive, welcoming environment, all free of charge. As our programs focus on the interests of the child and play based learning, the children and parents have had a great opportunity for learning so far this year!
The children have been busy doing gross motor activities, planting gardens, baking, singing, doing science, playing and learning. Parents and caregivers have had the chance to educate themselves through a variety of presentations by our community partners at the Manitouwadge Family Health Team, as well as those done by staff at Best Start, including The Big Disconnect; a presentation based on a book about Protecting Childhood and Family Relationships in the Digital Age.
In October, Best Start hosted a “Books are for Eating” cooking class where children and their parents enjoyed creating their own healthy culinary creations; pizza! The chefs really enjoyed the program where they got to create their own masterpiece. A First Aid presentation provided by Superior First Aid Services was also held in October and educated parents on a variety of first aid topics relating to children.
Best Start also hosts a Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program (CPNP), every Wednesday known as Baby Beginnings, that supports the health and well being of pregnant women and is a place where families can learn about infant development, learn parenting techniques and network with other families while their babies interact with other babies.
