SCHREIBER, ON – Superior North Catholic District School Board (SNCDSB) is being praised for its innovative approach to tech-education following a very important first in North America. Last month, the SNCDSB hosted a Student Summit featuring Google for Education and facilitated by the Ed Tech Team (visit www.edtechteam.com/summit).

About 100 student-leaders, from each of the board’s 9 schools, attended the all-day event at Holy Angels School.  The students were  chosen primarily for their leadership skills as they would, upon returning to their respective schools, share the knowledge and experiences from the summit with their peers and teachers.   The students were introduced to Google Apps for Education helping to deepen their learning and equip them with skills to make the most of technology being used not only within their own schools, but by educational institutions (k-12 and higher education) around the globe. The Ed-Tech Team Global Summits featuring Google for Education have, until now, been organized for educators however, following the success of the SNCDSB Student Summit it is hoped other school boards will be inspired to host similar student oriented summits.

OntarioNewsNorth.com spoke with 4 participating students from grades 5-8 who shared their perspective regarding what they learned, how they felt about this important 1st, how they think their new knowledge will serve them in the future, etc.; click play on the video below to watch the interview.
