Chapleau Man Fined $500 for Leaving Ice Fishing Shelter

ontariologoA Chapleau man has pleaded guilty to leaving a structure on public land.

Remi Ouimet was fined $500 under the Public Lands Act for leaving a portable ice fishing shelter on Crown land and ordered to remove it by February 1, 2015.

Court heard that in March 2014, Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry conservation officers found a portable ice fishing shelter on the shoreline of Renée Lake in Warren Township.  After investigating, officers contacted Ouimet on April 9, 2014. He said the structure was his and that he would remove it before the end of winter. On a later occasion, Ouimet told an officer he had removed the structure.  However, officers found it on an island in Renée Lake in August 2014.

Justice of the Peace Sylvie-Emanuelle Bourbonnais heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Chapleau, on November 12, 2014.

The ministry reminds the public that it is illegal to deposit or cause to be deposited any material, substance or thing on public land.
