MARATHON, ON – The emergency services in your community recognize the value in ensuring we are prepared for all types of emergencies. Equally as important as having a plan to respond during different types of emergencies, is practicing that plan.
Wednesday, October 22nd 2014, emergency services and education groups in the area will be participating in a mock emergency at the Marathon High School, and École Secondaire Cité-Supérieure located at 14 Hemlo Drive in Marathon, ON. Some of the services that will be participating include the Ontario Provincial Police, Marathon Fire Department, Superior North EMS, Conseil Scolaire Public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario, the Superior-Greenstone District School Board and Wilson Memorial General Hospital.
What you should know:
- There is no cause for alarm. The exercise looks realistic.
- It is not real. Do not call emergency numbers to ask for information regarding the exercise.
- October 22nd, there will be additional police resources and other emergency services in the community.
- The exercise will not impact any agencies’ ability to respond to real emergencies.
- Some services may not be available at the hospital or the clinic on October 22nd between 9:00am and 1:00pm. Please call ahead to confirm.
- If roads in the area of the Marathon High School are temporarily closed, please be patient. Officers will be directing traffic.
- If your child is a student at the high school, additional information related to the exercise will be sent home to all parents/guardians.
