SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – The St. Paul Patriots captured the aggregate title in a historic Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) Elementary Cross Country Championship. Three courses were used to accommodate races in five age categories. Trails were upgraded by students in the Board’s Eco-Edventure Program and races were monitored by students in the program and others from St. Basil Secondary and St. Mary’s College.
“We had a spectacular day and I thank everyone involved for their efforts to make this event such a huge success. We hosted over 800 students seamlessly due to the commitment of our dedicated teachers and student volunteers. Everyone very much appreciated that our Director John Stadnyk took time out from his busy schedule to assist at the finish line,” said Katrina Wheaton, Race Convener.
“I had a fantastic experience working alongside our teachers, many of whom have worked hard to make this event happen for decades. It was great to have the St. Kateri Outdoor Learning Centre used to its fullest potential and extra special to see the students perform so admirably,” said John Stadnyk, HSCDSB Director of Education.
Finished tied for second to St. Paul in the aggregate standings were Holy Cross, winners of the boys aggregate title, and St. Mary’s French Immersion. St. Joseph French Immersion from Wawa placed third. The St. Joseph team was also given the Friends of the Environment Award.
