Supporting Economic Development in Wauzhushk Onigum Nation
Ontario Strengthening Local Economy, Creating Jobs
Ontario is helping the Wauzhushk Onigum Nation move forward on its plans to establish a community development centre that will support local economic growth and create nine jobs.
“I would like to thank the NOHFC board for partnering with us in investing in the future of Wauzhushk Onigum. The community development centre will assist our community by expanding commercial business capacity and allowing us to maximize opportunities for training and economic development initiatives.” Chief Chris Skead, Wauzhushk Onigum Nation
With a $490,000 investment from the province’s Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation(NOHFC), the centre will provide a flexible and adaptable environment that can accommodate both short- and long-term community and economic development activities, including leasable space for businesses and professionals, and a versatile space for meetings and events.
“By investing in this community development centre, our government is helping position the community for future growth and significant job creation. I am very pleased that the NOHFC could support this important project, which has the potential to generate good jobs for years to come.” Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development and Mines and Chair of the NOHFC
Working with First Nations partners to build economic opportunities is part of the government’s plan to invest in people, build modern infrastructure and support a dynamic and innovative business climate.
