Pic River To Host SIJHL Exhibition Hockey Game

PicRiver-hockeyProceeds raised for Memorial Fund for accident victims

PIC RIVER, ON –  The Pic River First Nation is proud to announce that it will be hosting the Superior International Junior Hockey League exhibition hockey game between the Fort Frances Lakers and the Dryden Ice Dogs.

The Thursday September 11th game is being played in Marathon, Ontario. This game is being played in honour and tribute to four residents of Pic River who lost their lives in a tragic car accident in October 2012.  Jordan Nabigon, Kody Nabigon and Greg Nabigon, and former popular Lakers player Jaret LeClair died as a result of a car accident near the community. Hockey was a huge part in all of these young men lives and they loved their game.

“Last year was a memorial hockey game with the accident so close, it was a somber affair”, said Chief Duncan Michano.  “We miss our young people who passed, and we want this year’s game to be a celebration of hockey which meant so much these young people, and we want remind our children here today exactly how much we love them.”

The Pic River First Nation is using the event to raise proceeds to establish a memorial at the site of the accident.  Contributions to the Memorial Fund can be made to:
