More Support for Local Seniors’ Centres
Elderly Persons Centres Keeping Seniors Connected to Their Communities
Ontario is helping seniors stay healthy, active and connected to their communities by supporting Elderly Persons Centres.
The province is providing $11.5 million to support 265 centres across the province. Elderly Persons Centres provide social and recreational programs that promote wellness for seniors and offer them places to gather for activities like fitness classes, computer classes, and arts and crafts. This funding will help the centres maintain their operations and make small renovations, such as improving accessibility or making IT upgrades to better serve clients.
“We are pleased to support the work of Elderly Persons Centres in connecting seniors to their communities. This investment will provide seniors with more opportunities to stay active and engaged.” Mario Sergio, Minister Responsible for Seniors Affairs
Helping seniors stay active and engaged in their communities is part of the government’s plan to invest in people and create greater opportunity for Ontarians around the province.
“Seniors’ centres provide a sense of belonging, where seniors are able stay active, socialize, and build support networks. Working with the provincial government, seniors’ centres will continue to strengthen our communities.” Sue Hesjedahl, Executive Director, Older Adult Centres’ Association of Ontario
