NES Mayors Group Receives Funding For NOHFC Internship
From: NESMG
In May of 2014, the Northeastern Superior Mayors Group hired Meagan Roberts through the Northern Ontario Heritage Internship
program. Miss Roberts, who has a background in environmental law, will be assisting the Group in many areas including meeting logistics, research, social media and special projects as assigned. This internship was obtained in partnerships with the Superior East Community Futures Development Corporation which oversees and mentors the intern.
The Northeastern Superior Mayors Group was formed in early 2000 with representation from the communities of Manitouwadge,
Hornepayne, White River, Dubreuilville, Wawa and Chapleau. The purpose of the group was to increase regional cooperation, share information, resources and best practices as well as to be a strong political advocate for the region with a collective voice. Some of the accomplishments of the group include the establishment of cell services in the region, Northern Information Technology & Geomatics Cooperative (NITGC), North Superior Forest Communities, 911 services to the area as well as participation in the creation of Local Forest Management Corporations across the region.
The group hopes to maintain this NOHFC Internship for up to 2 years allowing them to be more active on issues arising in the region and, through the development of a social media strategy, to keep regional stakeholders informed of their ongoing activities.
