Forest Fire Situation Update Northwest Region
There are now 257 personnel from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry on assignment in British Columbia (130) and the Northwest Territories (127) to assist in ongoing forest fire management efforts.
Ontario has also provided equipment including 400 power pumps, 2,000 lengths of hose and two values protection units to British Columbia.
There was one new fire confirmed in the Northwest Region by the afternoon of August 6. Kenora District Fire Number 11 is under control at 0.1 hectares (ha) and located near Scout Bay on Lac Seul. The remaining active fire, Red Lake District Fire Number 17, is being observed at 152 ha and is located in Woodland Caribou Provincial Park. Red Lake District Fire Number 21 was declared out this morning at 0.2 ha.
The degree of concern for fire behaviour is moderate across the region, with the exception of Red Lake District which is maintaining a high hazard. Wednesday August 6 will see sunny skies across the northwest. Report forest fires in the Northwest Region and the Northeast Region (for areas north of the French and Mattawa Rivers) by dialing 310-FIRE (3473). Southern region forest fires can be reported by calling the local fire department.
