The FONOM Board of Directors met with Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister McMeekin, Northern Development and Mines Minister Gravelle, Finance Parliamentary Assistant Laura Albanese, Natural Resources and Forestry Minister Mauro, Transportation Minister Del Duca, Attorney General Minister Meilleur, Community Safety and Correctional Services Minister Naqvi, Energy Parliamentary Assistant Bob Delaney, Health and Long-Term Care Associate Minister Damerla, Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Minister Leal, and Economic Development, Employment and Trade Minister Duguid.
Among several issues addressed were the Power Dam Special Payments Program, Ontario Northland Transportation Commission, infrastructure funding, provincial highways, and natural gas expansion to rural communities.
The meetings provided an opportunity to discuss key issues that affect northern municipalities and residents. “It was important to have positive and productive conversations that will set the tone for the next four years,” says Mayor of Kapuskasing and President of FONOM, Al Spacek.
“Concern about the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry proposing to charge seniors for fishing licenses was also discussed with the Minister,” continued President Spacek.
FONOM looks forward to working together with the various Ministries to address the concerns of the north.
