CSPGNO Promotes Resilience Among Its Students And Staff

cspgnoSUDBURY, ON — Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario (CSPGNO) begins the new school year with a focus on resilience and positive parent-child relations.

All members of CSPGNO’s staff in all of the board’s locations will benefit from training and information sessions with Doctor Wayne Hammond, an expert in the area of resilience, on Tuesday, September 2nd, at École secondaire Macdonald-Cartier. Doctor Hammond’s presentation will be simultaneously transmitted by videoconference in all of CSPGNO’s elementary and secondary schools.

That same day, parents of CSPGNO students and the general public are invited to E. s. Macdonald-Cartier’s amphitheatre, where Doctor Hammond will give a presentation on “Fostering positive development of children and youth in the family context”. The presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. and it will be in English.

CSPGNO is a leader in offering innovative programs and services that provide its students and staff with practical information and strategies to foster their personal, professional and academic growth and development. For some time now, CSPGNO has been working with Dr. Hammond at various levels. The next step is for Dr. Hammond to share his expertise more widely across the entire school board.

In contrast with traditional parenting practices which tend to focus on the management of negative behaviours, a strengths-based approach focuses on strategies that help children develop the capacity to respond to life’s challenges with confidence, determination and good will.

This presentation will help all members of CSPGNO’s staff in their efforts to create a climate that encourages engagement, strong performance, well-being and success in all the board’s schools. This is one among many initiatives through which CSPGNO is pursuing its commitment to providing effective support to its parents and staff in their journey towards self-development and positive change.

Recognized for its keen sense of innovation and openness to the world, CSPGNO offers a French-language public education of the highest quality in eleven elementary schools and eight secondary schools in the communities of Markstay, Noëlville, Greater Sudbury, Elliot Lake, Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa, Dubreuilville, Marathon, Manitouwadge and Longlac. At CSPGNO, every child has the room to grow; there is a place for everyone!
