MANITOUWADGE, ON – June 20th, the Manitouwadge Public School Student Council took part in the Great Canadian Shoreline Clean-up, and cleaned up around the Lions’ Beach area.  In an hour these environmentally conscientious girls picked up  over 5 kg of garbage!!  Among the interesting finds were a pair of old socks, a rotten sign and a broken bicycle pump.

It was nice to see that the town’s garbage cans were being used,  but disappointing to see so  many cigarette butts thrown around everywhere.  These yukky  butts were kept separate and  were mailed off to a place in Toronto that will recycle them and make various things.

The Great Canadian Shoreline Clean-up is a conservation initiative that is spear-headed by the Vancouver Aquarium and Word Wildlife Fund (WWF), with Loblaw’s, OLG, Vancouver Airport Authority and many other sponsors.  Once again – our MPS students step-up and go the extra mile to show their community spirit, their great commitment to the environment and their ongoing leadership qualities. A sincere thank you to these great young ladies!
