SCHREIBER, ON – July 10, 2014 at approximately 1:35 p.m. members of the Schreiber Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint of a male being abducted at Highway 17, Township of Killraine, West of Schreiber, Ontario.
A male who was escorting a second male running across Canada to raise awareness for diabetes, called 911 to report to police that the runner was abducted by two males at gunpoint and forced into a small motor vehicle. While responding to the call, police received a second call from the complainant who reported it was a prank. Two males known to the runner had planned the event as a prank on the escorting male. The weapons used in the prank were not real.
As a result of police investigation, the three individuals involved in the prank were arrested and charged for Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, contrary to the Criminal Code. The charged males are:
- 25 year old Vincent CHABOT, of McMasterville, Quebec,
- 24 year old Sebastien ST-MARTIN of Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Quebec,
- 34 year old Sebastien SASSEVILLE (the runner) of Quebec City, Quebec.
The males were released and are to appear in Schreiber Court on October 9, 2014 to answer to the charge.
