MANITOUWADGE, ON – Friday, June 13, 2014 the Manitouwadge Nuclear Waste Community Liaison Committee (MNWCLC) hosted a BBQ alongside the NWMO’s Transportation Exhibit at the Manitouwadge Recreation Centre. Approximately 170 people visited, in spite of drizzling rain, to enjoy pulled-pork, refreshments and cake while meeting those members of the MNWCLC in attendance.

Among those visiting was Our Lady of Lourdes School teacher Karly Baker whose Grade 8 students had visited the NWMO’s previous Open House in Manitouwadge prior to their unit on ‘persuasive writing’.  Baker presented NWMO Regional Communication Pat Dolcetti with ‘persuasive writing’ assignments by 3 students who had asked their teacher to submit their work to the organization.  Baker explained that, prior to visiting the open house, her students had been split with about half for the deep geological repository being located in the Manitouwadge area and 1/2 opposed to this while after having visited the open house the students were all in favour of having the repository located near their community.
