CHAPLEAU, ON – May 14, 2014, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Chapleau Detachment was advised of found human remains inside a vehicle in a heavily wooded area 80 kilometres north of Chapleau in the Chapleau Game Preserve.
The OPP attended the area and the remains were removed on May 16. Foul play is not suspected.
OPP believe that this investigation is linked to a historical missing person case from Southern Ontario reported in 2011. No names will be released pending confirmation of the identity of the body through DNA testing.
The Chapleau OPP was assisted by the OPP Criminal Investigations Unit, the Emergency Response Team and Ministry of Natural Resources Fire Crews to gain access to the scene. A joint investigation with the Chief’s Coroner’s Office is continuing.
