EMO – Flooding Evacuations – Latest Update

emoLatest Update – May 19 at 10 p.m.

At the request of leaders of the First Nation, Attawapiskat residents who had been evacuated to communities in Ontario and Québec over the last three days, will start to move back home
on May 20.

Community leaders and officials from the Ministry of Natural Resources agree that the situation has improved significantly on the Attawapiskat River and that flood risks have diminished.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management will coordinate the repatriation of Attawapiskat residents with leaders from the community and its federal, provincial and host communities partners.

Details of the flight operations are still being worked on by all parties involved.
