“I am among you as one who serves”.
TERRACE BAY, ON – This year’s theme: “Serving in the Love of Christ” was clearly felt when you walked through the halls of St. Martin School, whether you were a student, staff member, parent or visitor.

Throughout the week of May 5th to May 9th students and staff participated in numerous activities that celebrated who we are as a faith based school guided by our Catholic Graduate Expectations. Parents and guests were invited to participate in these learning sessions during the regular school-day including activities such as, Oral Communication Presentations (Click for full story/photos), Mass with Holy Angels School (Schreiber) and École Franco-Terrace, daily Prayer services, Math activities, Drama Presentations, Bring Your Parent to School Day (see photo/article by scrolling down), etc.

As well, many of our classes were visible within the community engaged in service for others. The Grade 1/2 and 3/4 classes visited the Seniors at the hospital and spent time socializing and reading to the residents. The Grade 5/6 class raked the lawn and bagged debris at the church and performed tasks at Costa’s Foodmart, including filling our Breakfast Club order, stocking shelves, replenishing produce and delivering groceries to a local restaurant. Many of the Grade 7/8 students also volunteered to participate in the Green Tradeshow and assisted the Kids Corral Daycare center in the Kids Craft Table. We are very proud of and pleased with the effort that the students demonstrated in the tasks that they performed to show service to others and believe that we have future possible employees for child and health care, grocery stores and lawn care businesses.
All classes engaged students and parents in daily hands-on tasks planned to stimulate and maximize the learning of all persons involved. Staff and students also participated in Spirit day themes to raise money for the board Social Justice initiative in Africa, the Latrine project.
The last day was a wacky combination of all days and Madision Winters won a gift basket for the best combo, that included her classroom color Red, crazy hair, wacky hat, pajamas and both stripes and polka dots!
The week concluded with our staff, students, and parents assembling into our school families to create their own books adapted to the song “One Love” by Bob Marley. This song and other Bob Marley tunes could also be heard during the time that staff and students were working on their contributions. These books are on display below our Family Tree and can be read by simply visiting St. Martin School. This was a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate how truly unique and special St. Martin School students, staff, and parents are and how driven they are in their pursuit of excellence for all!

Annual Bring Your Parents to School Day
- Students had a lot of fun bringing their parents to school at St. Martin’s. Photo StM
TERRACE BAY, ON – Once again the Grade seven/eight parents of St. Martin school participated in the annual Bring Your Parents to School Day.
Fun was had by all as the parents became the students having to obtain late slips, participate in opening exercises, talking circles, and participate in student vs. parent challenges. The parents and students pitted their brains in the Beat the Parents challenge with the parents becoming the victors after a very close contest. However, the students were able to make a comeback by using their brawn to beat the parents in the annual parent vs. student dodge ball game.
