Ontario Providing a Boost to Regional Economic Growth
The Ontario government is investing $21,800 to support economic development in Thunder Bay-Superior North.
With support from our government’s Rural Economic Development (RED) Program, the Top of the Lake Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with other area Chambers, is creating a shop-local coupon booklet to encourage shoppers to support their local economies. This investment will help create or retain 3 full-time jobs.
“Our government’s Rural Economic Development program is an effective tool that helps Northern and rural communities identify investment opportunities, grow their local economy and create jobs. I’m very pleased that our government was able to support this important project for Nipigon.” Michael Gravelle, MPP Thunder Bay-Superior North
Supporting Northern communities is part of the government’s economic plan that is creating jobs for today and tomorrow. The comprehensive plan and its six priorities focus on Ontario’s greatest strengths – its people and strategic partnerships.
“To help grow and diversify rural Ontario’s economy, we must continue to provide local communities with business-friendly tools, resources and supports. Through the Rural Economic Development Program, Nipigon will be better positioned to attract investment, create jobs and grow its economy.” Jeff Leal, Minister of Rural Affairs
Since 2003, our government has invested more than $167 million in 468 RED projects, generating more than $1.2 billion in local economic activity and creating more than 35,000 jobs.
The government is also supporting regional economic development through programs such as the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund, and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.
