NORTHSHORE/GREENSTONE, ON – Spring weather continues to make travelling difficult in the area as Highway 17 was closed earlier today due to thawing snow and ice. Highway 17 was closed to traffic at Terrace Bay to westbound traffic, and eastbound at Rainbow Falls because of water over the roadway near Hays Lake, it remained closed for approximately 2 hours while the M.T.O. cleared the roadway of water.
The Freezing Rain Warning originally issued by Environment Canada for Manitouwadge and Hornepayne is no longer in effect as of 3:58pm.
The following Snowfall Warning remains in effect (as of 3:58pm):
- Geraldton – Longlac – Caramat
- Nakina – Aroland – Pagwa
Major winter storm today.
A major winter storm centred over Eastern Lake Superior will track into Northeastern Ontario tonight. Snow at times heavy will continue along with a risk of freezing rain. 15 to locally 25 centimetres of snow is likely along with reduced visibilities in local blowing snow.
Travellers should consider changing their plans as driving conditions may be hazardous.
The winter storm will end tonight as the low centre tracks towards James Bay. [End of warning message]
