MANITOUWADGE, ON – Last week the Township of Manitouwadge Community Services and Manitouwadge Early Years Best Start Hub collaborated to host their annual Easter Extravaganza in the Recreation Centre. Admission was free for this fun, all ages, event which included a half dozen crafting stations; egg decorating, painting, modeling clay, etc, a toddler play area with mats and age-appropriate toys, a face painting by a talented, and imaginative, high school student and of course a visit by the Easter Bunny himself were among the activities enjoyed by attendees. All of these however, were leading up to the main event for most – the egg hunt.

A very clever adaptation was made to the egg hunt, which again this year, had to take place inside due to wet, snowy and, in some places, muddy, conditions outside. Community Programmer Shawna Patterson was credited with providing the Easter Bunny with the idea for allowing more fair distribution of the chocolate eggs as, prior to leaving the rec centre, the furry friend, assisted by the events hosts, scattered printed images throughout the lobby and hallways of the Rec Centre’s main floor. “Hunters” had to find a set of 3 images which they could then trade for a baggie of chocolate eggs. The “egg hunt” twist helped make the hunt more challenging for older kids as well as levelling the playing field for the younger kids making the indoor hunt much more fun for all (the places available for ‘hiding’ on the main level are limited and much better suited to the new ‘paper’ egg hunt).

All seemed to have a wonderful time, no doubt appreciative of the time and efforts put in by the collaborating host agencies.
