WAWA, ON – The month of February has been a very special one for the Wawa’s École Saint-Joseph Chevaliers senior girls’ volleyball team. After competing in the Franco-Ontarian Volleyball Championship in Whitby where they finished in the top eight, the Chevaliers returned to Wawa on February 11. The following day, the girls from É.s.c. Saint-Joseph resumed their activity and faced the Manitouwadge High School Wolverines in Manitouwadge in a tie-breaker to determine who would advance to the North Shore Secondary School Athletic Association (NSSSAA) finals. The Chevaliers upset their rivals in a very exciting three sets.
From there, the Chevaliers travelled to Terrace Bay as the newly crowned Central Division Champions to take on their Western hosts, Terrace Bay’s Lake Superior High School Stingers, and the NSSSAA East Division champions Hornepayne High School Hawks. The Chevaliers defeated both the Hornepayne Hawks and the Lake Superior Stingers, before meeting the Hawks in the finals. The Chevaliers won the finals in three games (25-10, 16-25 and 15-13).
As NSSSAA champions, École secondaire Saint-Joseph Chevaliers will now host the Northwestern Ontario champions, St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School Saints from Kenora, facing them in the Northwestern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (NWOSSAA) championship sets on February 20 and 21.
