Marathon Family Health Team News; Welcoming A New Physician

MARATHON, ON – The Marathon Family Health Team is entering a transition phase. Since July 2012, Dr. Nikki Sturwold has provided quality health care to her patients and to people within our community. She was the first physician recruit as a result of the efforts of the Marathon Physician and Retention Committee which was formed in January 1, 2011. She has announced her plan to leave our community on April 1, 2014, and although we are sad to see her leave, we honour her decision to seek out a practice and living environment that meets her individual and family needs.
Patients of Dr. Sturwold need not be without a physician as we are happy to welcome a new physician to our group, Dr. Sayali Tadwalkar which now includes Dr. Jessica Robinson and Dr. Patchett Marble as well.
Dr. Tadwalkar has a strong appreciation for family medicine. She values patient-centred care and the trust that results from a long term relationship. She looks forward to helping individuals and families remain healthy as they grow.
Dr. Tadwalkar’s introduction to the Marathon Family Health Team was when she responded to an advertisement for a locum placement with our team. “I was very impressed with the doctors, the office staff, and the overall atmosphere around the office and community,” she said. “There is something unique about Marathon and its team…it just feels like the right place to be.”
Since January 2011, she has continued to locum on a regular basis. She has enjoyed the community, health team, and hospital staff and has made the decision to sign on as a full time physician in Marathon.
On leaving, Dr. Sturwold says “I am grateful for what I have learned while here in Marathon about medicine and about rural living. I am grateful too for the opportunity I have had to provide care for so many of Marathon’s citizens through the clinic and ER. I know my patients will be in good hands with any one of the newer physicians here.”
