Wawa Goose Seniors Club January Goose Droppings
It’s frozen! The lake, the streets, the car, my fingers and my brain….all so hardened that nothing works well! The tires on the car have been so often square that they decided that the tire monitor would scream at me and stay there until….who knows?
The Drop In is still a nice warm place when you get there, however. We have continued sometimes with more people than we could have reasonably have expected given the cold and the blowing and the snow, and again and again, the snow!
Back in December we were given some good advice by Valerie Fahrer from Gilmartin’s Funeral Home. She advised that pre-planning would give some knowledge of our wishes and a will would be a way to protect our assets. Making decisions at a time of major stress could be made easier for our family and the government involvement and added costs would be avoided. She also discussed the importance of some form of “service” to honour a life as it has a part to play in the grieving process. Valerie also stressed that she is available to answer anyone’s questions. And one need not worry that the asking will signal immediate death!
At our January meeting we began a discussion which will be on the agenda of the February meeting (2pm, Tuesday Feb. 12). We are talking about how to make it possible and enjoyable for seniors to become more involved in our club and our community. If you are a member or someone who could be a member (50+ years of age) and have any ideas to share please let us have them. Telephone 7394 in the afternoon on weekdays or drop in or send us a note (Box 66, Wawa, ON P0T 2E0, or via email to WawaCreekBeb@Yahoo.ca). Can we offer something or help out in some way?
Have you remembered to give Bud Smith your $15 membership fee for the year? We could really use all the members we can possibly have if we are to continue offering any kind of regular services. Consider joining if are not yet a member. If you are interested or have questions, don’t hesitate to contact us (see email address below or just come out to the next meeting).
Or you could come on out for the Winter Carnival Valentine’s Day Chili Luncheon between 11:30am and 2:00pm, Friday, February 14, 2014. Enjoy some great food, homemade chili and various breads, and socialize!!
