TRAFFIC STOP RESULTS IN LARGE DRUG SEIZURE
WAWA, ON – November 28, 2013 at 2:40 pm, the Superior East Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wawa Detachment were conducting radar patrols on Highway 17 north of Wawa in the Lalibert Township. Two white SUV’s were recorded traveling at a high rate of speed and were subsequently stopped.
As a result of police investigation a large drug seizure was made and all four occupants of the two vehicles were arrested.
OPP seized the following:
• 66.5 pounds Cannabis Marihuana – approximate street value $133,000
• 479 grams Cocaine – approximate street value $47,900
• Large amount of Canadian Currency
The following individuals were arrested and charged;
Levar SMILLIE, 26-years-of-age of Toronto, Ontario was charged with the following;
1. Traffick in Schedule I substance – Cocaine
2. Traffick in Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana over 3 kg
3. Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
4. Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cannabis Marihuana over 3 kg
5. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
6. Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
7. Fail to Comply with Undertaking given by an Officer in Charge – 2 counts
Ryan GILBERT, 27-years-of-age, Karthick SELVARATNAM, 26-years-of-age both of Toronto, Ontario and Richard JOSEPH, 29-years-of-age of East York, Ontario were charged with the following;
1. Traffick in Schedule I substance – Cocaine
2. Traffick in Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana over 3 kg
3. Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
4. Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cannabis Marihuana over 3 kg
5. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
All 4 accused were held for Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
