BRUCE HYER TO SIT AS GREEN PARTY MP
Green Party caucus doubles with Thunder Bay-Superior North MP’s membership
THUNDER BAY, ON – Bruce Hyer, Member of Parliament for Thunder Bay-Superior North, will sit as the second Green Party MP in the House of Commons.
“Becoming a Green Party MP will allow me to maintain my independence and stand up for the interests of my constituents. At the same time, it will enable me to represent Northern Ontario even more effectively. Working with the Greens, I’ll have access to the resources of a well-organized national party and will have the benefit of collaboration with Elizabeth May and her team,” Hyer said.
“My decision to sit as an independent was a response to the way the major parties limited true representation of my constituents by demanding lockstep discipline,” Hyer said. “This mindless solidarity prevents cooperation and compromise, meaningful policy discussion and finding productive solutions for Canadians.”
“But the Green Party is different. In fact, they’re the only federal political party that not only accepts but values democratic representation. The party does not and will not force their members to vote against the wishes of their constituents,” Hyer pointed out. “My loyalty is first to my constituents, and with the Greens I’m looking forward to showing Northern Ontarians and Canadians what a party that doesn’t whip votes looks like.”
“I am very excited about the opportunity to work with Elizabeth and the rest of the Green Party on the issues that matter to Canadians like democratic reform, national energy security, combatting climate change and fostering small business growth to create employment. Together we will work to build a better Canada and be a strong voice for all of Thunder Bay-Superior North,” Hyer said.
“I am thrilled to welcome Bruce Hyer to the Green Party,” Elizabeth May, Green Party Leader and MP for Saanich–Gulf Islands, said. “I look forward to working with Bruce to break through the partisan gridlock and work on the issues that matter most to Canadians.”
