The MNR Wawa District is advising residents that a watershed conditions statement is in place due to current watershed conditions and forecasted precipitation. This statement is in effect until Nov. 18, 2013.
Local ground conditions remain saturated due to continuing precipitation. Local creeks and streams are flowing at higher than normal seasonal levels. Forecast rainfall will result in most of the excess water entering local waterways. In addition, melting snow in the northern portion of the watershed may introduce more water into the system. It is expected that river levels will rise further and that localized flooding may occur in low-lying areas or in areas with poor drainage.
The evolving storm system is predicted to produce rainfall of 40-60 mm over the weekend with the heaviest precipitation occurring overnight Saturday and into Sunday morning.
The MNR Wawa District is advising residents to take appropriate action to protect property especially in flood-prone areas and to exercise caution around lakes and fast-flowing rivers and streams. Potential increases in water levels and flows can be especially dangerous and stream banks can be slippery. Residents are asked to stay away from fast-moving rivers and streams.
