UPDATE – Red Lake Plane Crash: Five Deceased Recovered

RED LAKE, ON – Sunday, November 10, 2013 at approximately 6:34 p.m. (Central Standard Time) the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was notified that a Bearskin Airlines plane had crashed on the approach to landing at Red Lake airport.  The Metro Fairchild 19 passenger plane had departed Sioux Lookout and was scheduled to land in Red Lake.

Members of the OPP Red Lake Detachment including the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), as well as members of the Red Lake Fire Department and ambulance responded to the location in the area of the Red Lake airport.

A fifty-year old female from Winnipeg and a twenty-nine year old male from Winnipeg were both transported from the scene by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

Five deceased have been confirmed. The two male pilots: a twenty-five year old from Mississauga and a thirty-four year old from Winnipeg, and three passengers: a fifty-three year old female, a fifty-three year old male, and a sixty-four year old female all from Red Lake were located within the wreckage. The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.

The OPP will remain on scene to assist the Transportation Safety Board of Canada in the investigation.
