Superior East OPP Wawa : Stunt Driver Arrest For Obstruct Police
WAWA, ON – On November 2, 2013 an officer from the Superior East Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wawa Detachment was conducting radar patrols on Highway 17 in Labelle Township. At 4:20 am a 2005 Acura TSX was recorded travelling in excess of 50 kilometres per hour of the 90 kilometres per hour posted speed limit. The vehicle was subsequently stopped and the driver, 27-year-old Joseph ADDAI of Brampton, Ontario was advised of the impending charge. He was advised further that his driver’s license would be suspended and the vehicle impounded for the mandatory 7 days.
The driver refused to co-operate with the officer when asked for the keys to the vehicle for the tow. When asked to exit his vehicle the accused locked his hands on the steering wheel. He was then advised that he was under arrest for obstructing a peace officer. A short struggle ensued before the accused was handcuffed and placed in the police cruiser.
As a result the accused stands charged with the following offences;
1) Assault with intent to resist arrest
2) Obstruct Peach Officer
3) Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt Speeding by 50 or more km/hr
He is scheduled to appear in Wawa Criminal Court on January 6, 2014 and Wawa Provincial Offences Court on February 20, 2014.
