St. Martin School’s 2nd Annual “Trick or Eat” is a Success!
By Mary Keyter for St. Martin School
TERRACE BAY, ON – For the second year in a row, Grade 4-8 students of St. Martin School hit the streets of Terrace Bay a few days before Halloween to collect non-perishable items from residents to be donated to the local food bank. With most donning capes and masks, the students went door to door shouting, “Trick-or-Eat!” and were met with friendly faces willing to give.
After only an hour and a half of canvassing, the 17 students, assisted by parent volunteers, managed to bring in about 650 items, from canned goods and rice, to diapers and toothpaste, and $77.00 in donations! All the students that participated had a fantastic time and were very appreciative of how generous the community was in their donations. After unloading the boxes and bags of food donations it was clear to the students that a little bit of effort can lead to big results, and that they can make a difference.
As one student commented, “Instead of playing X-Box, we got to help people tonight.” So, you can expect a knock on your door a few days before next Halloween because, after such a great success this year, St. Martin School is already anticipating next year’s Trick-or-Eat event!
