ROAD CONDITIONS RESULT IN SEVERAL COLLISIONS ~Highway 17 near Marathon~

oppcolourMARATHON, ON – Monday November 25, 2013 members of the Marathon detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to several collisions on Highway 17 in the vicinity of Marathon ON.

Around 9:00 am, approximately 4 km west of Marathon, a westbound commercial motor vehicle (CMV) failed to negotiate a left curve, went into the ditch and side swiped a rock cut. The truck driver suffered minor injuries and was released from the hospital later in the day. The truck was badly damaged and the contents of the trailer were scattered in the ditch. Clean up of the crash continues.

Around 11:00 am, a westbound Buick Century lost control due to road conditions and struck the guide posts. There was minor damage done to the vehicle and it was towed to White River. This collision occurred near Dunc Lake.

Around 12:30 pm, approximately 25 km east of Marathon, an eastbound CMV loaded with cattle failed to negotiate a left curve and crossed the highway, entered the north ditch and struck a rock cut. The truck was demolished but the trailer was intact. The driver and cattle were not injured as a result of the crash. The CMV was removed approximately 3 hours later.

The OPP encourage drivers to drive at appropriate speeds considering road conditions, visibility and driver experience. Ensure your vehicle is equipped with appropriate winter tires and a winter survival kit is recommended.
