Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group Shares Prestigious Award With Community
MANITOUWADGE, ON – At the regular meeting of council, November 13, 2013, Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group members Clare Milks and Anne Williams were in attendance to thank council for the nomination they had made which led to the MCAG being awarded with the June Callwood Award for Excellence in Volunteerism in April 2013 they were among only 17 recipients (individuals and groups) throughout the entire province of Ontario to be recognized with the prestigious award. Milks, who addressed council, explained that the group had decided to present their award to the township, that it might be displayed publicly as a thank to the community for their support of the MCAG’s ongoing efforts and fundraising which provide support to Manitouwadge cancer patients and their families.
“To council in thanks for their nomination but also to the in recognition of the community of Manitouwadge and all their support in what we try to do so we thought it would be fitting to have it on display here [at the township office] for everyone to enjoy” explained Milks. In addition to the award presented to the group by Minister of Immigration and Citizenship Michael Coteau, Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Michael Mantha had also sent a letter thanking the group for their tireless dedication to our community.
