SAULT STE. MARIE ON  – More than two decades ago, the Tsilhqot’in Nation in British Columbia started direct actions and legal battles to gain recognition from Canada of their Aboriginal title and rights to their land.

On Nov. 7, 2013, the Supreme Court of Canada will hear the historic appeal of this case. The sole issue before the Supreme Court of Canada will be Aboriginal title. The outcome of this appeal can be expected to profoundly shape the future of Canada’s Aboriginal peoples.

As the court date approaches, Tsilhqot’in Nation elders are undertaking a journey for justice so that they can be present for the case. The Tsilhqot’in elders will be making their way to Sault Ste. Marie on November 3, 2013 where the Batchewana First Nation (BFN) will host the  delegation.

As a show of support for the Tsilhqot’in Nation, Batchewana will be providing a feast, honour songs, and an address from leadership.
