Crossover Joins International Celebration of Independent Entertainment Retailers

MARATHON, ON – This Saturday, October 19th, Independent Video Stores across the world will band together to promote the message “We Are Still Here!”.

Since 2010, when Movie Gallery and Blockbuster closed their stores in Canada, the popular media misconception has been that movies stores no longer exist; this could not be further from the truth. Independently owned movie stores continue to exist, many thriving, across the country.

There are over 300 independently owned stores operating in Canada. Among them,  Eyesore Cinema Owner Daniel Hannah, from Toronto, was troubled by the constant talk of the switch to digital forms of movie rentals deciding to recruit fellow store owners and dedicate a day of celebration to independently owned movie stores, in part recognizing their contribution to local economies and cultures.

“Everyone is invited to come and take part in this special day of celebration as we’ll be open for 12 hours of fun; from 11am-11pm, Saturday, October 19th.We look forward to celebrating with our customers from Marathon and neighbouring communities.” Tyler Davis, Owner Crossover Video & Games in Marathon.

What started as a small group celebrating in Toronto 3 years ago, has grown into a full- blown worldwide celebration.  In 2013, dozens of stores from Canada, as well as many from other countries, including the USA, England, Australia, Germany, France and Poland will be taking part in the International Independent Movie Store Day, Saturday, October 19th. Crossover Video and Games in Marathon will be among those participating in the celebration.

Throughout the day, staff at Crossover will be offering in-store sales, coupons, free samples and other goodies to their customers. Among the give-a-ways, a new Sony Blu-Ray player will also be up for grabs!

This special day has even garnered the attention of those in the movie industry, with Hollywood heavyweights among those taking note. Producer Fred Vogel will be marking the occasion by recalling his childhood days of browsing the aisles at his local video store with his family, where the smell of fresh popcorn swept through the air and chatter with friends and neighbors could be heard throughout.

In Marathon, an invitation from Crossover Video & Games Owner, Tyler Davis: “Everyone is invited to come and take part in this special day of celebration as we’ll be open for 12 hours of fun; from 11am-11pm,  Saturday, October 19th.We look forward to celebrating with our customers from Marathon and neighbouring communities.” Join them at Crossover Video & Games in Marathon located in the Superior Place Plaza.
