Fined for Trespassing on Private Property to Hunt Moose
Jeffrey Taylor of Constance Lake First Nation was fined $800 for shooting a moose on private lands after permission to hunt on the property was denied by the landowner.
Court heard that on or about November 5, 2012, Taylor obtained permission from the Templeton Township landowner to use a private road to access a trap line. Permission to hunt on the private land was denied. While travelling from his trap line, Taylor shot and killed a cow moose while on private property. Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers investigated the incident after receiving a complaint from the land owner. Justice of the Peace Jean-Marie Blier heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Hearst, on August 13, 2013.
The Ministry of Natural Resources would like to remind the hunters that permission is required to hunt on private property when the property is posted as no trespassing.
