VEHICLE STOP RESULTS IN LARGE DRUG SEIZURE
WHITE RIVER, ON – July 1, 2013 at approximately 12:40 am officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East White River Detachment were conducting R.I.D.E. checks on Highway 17 in the Township of White River. A 2002 Dodge Ram pickup truck bearing Alberta license plates stopped for the check. Upon approaching the truck and speaking with the driver, the investigating officer detected a strong odor of freshly burnt marihuana. Police investigation led to a search of the vehicle and a large quantity of marihuana was seized.
As a result all 3 occupants, Robert DAVIS (51 years of age), Joseph DAVIS (18 years of age) and a 15 year old youth were arrested and charged. All three are from Sexsmith, Alberta.
In total OPP seized over 70 pounds of Cannabis Marihuana for an estimated street value if $322,050. Other items seized as a result of the search include Cannabis Resin, LSD Acid and undisclosed amount of Canadian currency.
All three accused were charged with the following Controlled Drug and Substances Act Offences;
- Possession of Schedule II Cannabis Resin – over 1 gram
- Possession of Schedule III
- Possession for the Purpose Schedule II over 3 kg
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Trafficking Schedule II – Cannabis Marihuana over 3 kgs.
The accused were held in custody pending a Bail Hearing in Sault Ste. Marie.
