“We are very excited about this funding from Superior North CFDC, as funded by FedNor, and believe it will really resonate with the teenagers in the region. This idea was developed with the intent of providing a unique experience for our younger residents and received the support of our youth when the idea was pitched to local high school students” said Carmelo Notarbartolo, CAO/ Clerk Township of Terrace Bay
TERRACE BAY, ON – The Township of Terrace Bay has successfully leveraged support from the Local Initiatives Contribution grant program to further grow the highly successful Lighthouse Street Festival. Superior North CFDC, as funded by FedNor, will be contributing $4,800 towards the costs of bringing Montreal based Jagger Sports Co to perform a BMX Stunt Show in Terrace Bay. The performance will take place during the Lighthouse Street Festival and involve two 20 minute extreme games type performances involving BMX professionals doing incredible jumps, flips and tricks.
Additionally, the performers will hold a teaching clinic at the nearby skateboard park for local youth to bring their bikes and explain try drops with an emphasis on safety. The stunt shows will be held at 4pm and 7pm on August 23, 2013. The teaching clinic will be held the next day on August 24th from 1pm-2:30pm with youth encouraged to sign-up and bring their bikes to go over safe tricks with the BMX professionals. The Lighthouse Street Festival will also involve a juggler, clowns, large inflatables, bingo, food specials, beer gardens, DJ, live band, show and shine and sidewalk sales from area businesses.
A new event taking place this year will also be a slam dunk contest, on a six foot basketball net, to serve as a fundraiser for the new McCausland Hospital Commitment to Care fundraising Campaign. Growing the Lighthouse Street Festival is part of the Town’s commitment to providing value to its residents and visitors which is further reinforced by the upcoming Midway Carnival to be held in Simcoe Plaza from August 30 to September 1.
