Improving Highway 11 in Greenstone
Ontario Government Strengthening Northern Economy, Creating Jobs
Ontario is creating 53 new jobs with improvements to Highway 11 near the Town of Greenstone.
"Our investment in the Northern Highways Program is expanding and improving vital transportation links for local residents, visitors and industries across Northern Ontario. This project will create about 53 new jobs and will certainly improve safety and traffic flow in the Greenstone area.” Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development and Mines
More than 21 kilometers of Highway 11 is being reconstructed. The improvements will strengthen the northern transportation network by reducing maintenance demands and making the road safer for families, businesses and tourists who visit the area.

Investing in roads, highways and bridges is part of the Ontario government’s Growth Plan for Northern Ontario. A strong northern economy will help create a fair society and give the people of Ontario more opportunities for jobs and economic prosperity.
Quick Facts
- C. Villeneuve Construction Company Limited has been awarded a contract of $5.3 million. Work will begin in summer 2013.
- Since 2003, the province has improved 3,146 kilometres of highway and 187 bridges, and constructed 387 kilometres of new four-lane highway along with 102 new bridges throughout Northern Ontario.
