NOHFC Aligning Programs with Growth Plan for Northern Ontario
“The NOHFC has a proud past and our program review ensures it will continue to build a strong future. We listened to our northern stakeholders and I am confident that over the next two months we will put forward revised NOHFC programs that will help create a stronger, more diverse, sustainable and prosperous northern economy.” Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development and Mines and chair of the NOHFC
Ontario is taking a coordinated, long-term approach to strengthening economic prosperity and stimulating innovation, entrepreneurship and business development in the North through a review of its Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) programs.
This review will strengthen NOHFC programs and help create jobs by focusing investment with the 11 emerging and priority economic sectors identified in the Growth Plan for Northern Ontario under the following themes:
- Private sector job creation
- Supporting northern community infrastructure
- Enhancing economic development capacity
- Stimulating commercialization, innovation and productivity
- Attracting and retaining talent
Investing in northern economic development is an important part of the Ontario government’s Growth Plan for Northern Ontario. A strong northern economy will help create a fair society and give the people of Ontario more opportunities for jobs and economic prosperity.
