BATCHEWANA, ON – This weekend Batchewana First Nation members will honour the Anishnabek culture, language and heritage through song and dance at this years Powwow themed, “Niimidaa Jiingdamok” (let us dance).
The Powwow will take place at the Rankin Powwow grounds, 142 gran street, Batchewana, ON for one day on Saturday August 31, 2013.
Saturday’s events will showcase several different exhibition dances to provide an understanding of the individuality and uniqueness of regalia and distinct dance styles.
Master of ceremony, Joel Syrette will initiate two grand entries, the first at 1pm and the second at 7pm. Host Drum, Elk Spirit will provide the opening song. Head Vetran, Jan Ritchie will lead the procession followed by a rotation of head dancers.
Anishnabek vendors will be on site offering a wide variety of hand made crafts, and delicious traditional foods for everyone to enjoy.
This is a healthy lifestyle activity and traditional event, absolutely no alcohol, drugs or pets are permitted.
Rough camping is available, Batchewana First Nation Chief and Council hope to see you there!
