MANITOUWADGE, ON – The Manitouwadge Family Health Team’s Amazing Walk II wrapped-up last week with an ‘Evening in Venice‘ at the Manitouwadge Arena. The family health team had worked diligently to transform the arena with picnic tables, storefronts and much more seeming to think of almost every detail.  Manitouwadge General Hospital CEO Jocelyn Bourgoin was the CEO for the evening keeping things rolling as a plethora of prizes were distributed to walk participants.  There were also several important presentations; the MFHT presented the local Food Bank with a check of funds raised during the walk (click for article re: MFHT presents non-perishables to food bank), participants who had been required, thanks to the ‘Pandora’s Box’ element of Segment 4, to create a lemonade stand during the First Day of Summer celebrations (CLICK HERE for article/photos) also had a check which they presented to the Manitouwadge Nursery School. Between presentations and prize draws, local musician Bruce Herrick kept the attendees thouroughly entertained. People couldn’t resist joinging in as a giant conga-line began weaving between tables, others danced in front of the stage and some others even accepted an invitation to go up on stage (about a 1/2 dozen women and children took the stage) and accompany Bruce as his back-up signers. The evening was a great way to wind-up 8 weeks of hard work for the teams of 6 people each who had, during the Amazing Walk II, walked the equivalent of the distance from Munich Switzerland to Venice Italy, approximately 844.9 km OR 1115281 Steps! The grand prize winners were the “No Names”; Yvonne MacNeill, Raymond MacNeill, Linda Killingbeck, Jennifer Budden and Donna Hope who each won Mountain Bikes.

Fire Chief Owen Cranney drew from those people who attended the Fire Extinguisher Training Class to pick both an individual winner and a winning team (CLICK HERE for the full article and photos) : Holy Strollers won as a team; Linda Baril won as an individual.

Among the more unique prizes were those recognizing the team with the best name as voted on by participants,  The Red Hot Chili Steppers took that honour while the Youngest Participant for 2013 was 8yr old Emeraude Charron (who also won this award in 2012). A draw was done for all those who completed at least one segment successfully, each draw winner then drew from among 4 great prizes (including a bbq) to determine their prize, winners were:

  • Adenola Bodunde
  • Denis Bellerose
  • Daniel Takacs
  • Annette Flynn

Finally their were two door prizes, one for an individual the other for a team won by Freda Sampson (individual) and Mitch’s Gang (team) respectively. Keep watching as their is some great video footage from the evening to be uploaded asap as well as many more photos! CONGRATULATIONS! To all those who participated and especially to the 39 teams who successfully completed the Amazing Walk II!
