MARATHON, ON – Friday, June 28th, participants in the 2013 Marathon Summerfest Fish Derby polished up their boats to kick-off the weekend with a parade through the centre of town. Beginning at the Marathon Curling Club the parade, consisting of a little more than a dozen vehicles – the majority towing boats, travelled down Stevens Street before turning on to Penninsula Road which they followed through to Hemlo Drive to end at the Centre Mall.

Though significantly smaller, in regards to number of participating vehicles, than past years, those who were involved certainly followed the theme very well. Many of the boats being towed in the parade were quite creative in their interpretation of the “Oh Canada” theme. OntarioNewsNorth.com’s top three favourites, as decided with the help of Manitouwadge Town Councillor Natalie Labbee were the “Bob & Doug” entry (as in the MacKenzie brothers) taking us back to the 80’s, another boat which had a trio of young beavers at the helm and the OPP’s well known mini-cruiser with a special twists – it was pulling a trailer in which another officer (he may have been 4 legged, and stuffed) was riding!
