MANITOUWADGE, ON – The Township of Manitouwadge Community Services Department’s Playground program is very busy again this summer with lots of learning, fun and adventure for participants aged 4 through 9yrs of age.  Theme days including most recently; Christmas, Easter and Halloween put a fun spin on crafts and games.

Community Services chose for 2013 to provide parents with new options as children can be registered to participate during the morning, afternoon or full days and feedback has been overwhelming positive in regards to the added hours especially for parents who work full time and may not otherwise have a full-day childcare option.

In addition to the extended hours, children registered for the program now have the option to also be registered for swimming lessons at the Oasis Pool (adjacent to the recreation centre where Playground is held) as Playground facilitators bring walk the children to and from their lessons “My kids have never taken swimming lessons” explained one Mom whose 2 children are registered for the full 8 weeks of playground “It’s great that the kids can now do both [Playground and swimming lessons], they are really enjoying it.” Because both parents in the case of the afforementioned family, work full time their children would not have the opportunity to enjoy swimming lessons if the option was not available within the Playground program.

Community Programmer Shawna Patterson confirmed that the feedback she has received to date has all been positive with many happy parents and kids taking advantage of the summer programming being offered.  If your child is not already participating in Playground registrations are still being accepted, contact the Township for full details (fees are very reasonable) at 826-3227.

TRICK or TREAT in July!

Thursday, July 11th the Playground Participants and their facilitators celebrated Halloween. Dressed in their favourite costumes the kids had a blast visiting the Township office, Post Office, many downtown businesses, Lakeview Terrace and Manitouwadge General Hospital’s long-term care residents.
