FROM THE EDITOR: Thanks to Jason Sack who isn’t actually from the OntarioNewsNorth.com area but found us on Facebook and shared this information (which includes details of how those readers from other communtiies can search to see if there are bank accounts from clubs or organizations they’re involved with which have funds waiting to be claimed (this money could potentially be put to good use, perhaps claimed and donated to another group which is active in the community?). Hi, I wanted to let you know about the Unclaimed Bank Accounts Database online.
When bank accounts go dormant for 10 years, they’re transferred to the Bank of Canada for safekeeping as a “lost account”
There’s currently $495 million dollars being held in 1.3 Million unclaimed bank accounts held in trust with the Bank of Canada that belongs to Canadians and Canadian organizations.
My mission is to help Canadians recover their share of that money. The bank holds balances under $1000 for 40 years; balances over $1000 are held for 100 years in the event that someone reclaims.
I set up a facebook page to make it easy for people to share the information.

This is sort of my “pay-it-forward project” and I’m not looking for anything in return other than to be able to say I’m the one who helped people be reunited with their lost money or the lost money of their deceased relatives.
