DayCamp Flashback – Holiday Week at Playground

Township of Manitouwadge Community Services DayCamp (Playground) is facilitated Supervisor Vanessa Ratte and Leaders; Elaine Milks and Alisha Piche – they are also the authors of the DayCamp Flashback which will be published each week until the end of the program.

There was plenty of reason for Celebration last week at Daycamp, and the Leaders planned a week loaded with many exciting holidays. The week started out with New Years, as the kids counted down to 2014. The day was full of fun activities but the highlights were creating New Year’s goals, party hats and a New Year’s ball complete with confetti and sparkles, which the group of 14 worked hard to create. At the countdown the ball dropped and popped and created a great display for the kids, which they all enjoyed playing in. Their party hats served as a great scoop for the sparkles, which the kids covered themselves in. They all left Monday happy and sparkly.

Tuesday found the kids celebrating Christmas in July. To get the kids in the spirit of Christmas, a pre-lit tree was set up and decorated with homemade decorations and snowflakes made by each of the kids. The group sang Christmas carols, coloured Christmas Pictures and went on a Christmas ball hunt in the tall grass behind the pool.

The celebrations continued into Wednesday with Halloween. The kids certainly enjoyed this day as they were able to dress up and bring trick or treating bags to go out in the afternoon. Several downtown businesses as well as Lakeview Terrace and the Long Term Care patients joined in the fun. The seniors certainly enjoyed the little trick or treaters as each of the kids brought a big smile to their faces as they welcomed a wonderful visit. Even though the kids got caught in the rain, they still enjoyed their afternoon and some Halloween punch when they returned complete with frozen hands.. We would like to thank all the businesses involved in helping make the Halloween celebration complete.

Daycamp hopped into Easter on Thursday as the kids Easter crafts, games and fun. The kids were able to create a cute Bunny or Chick craft to take home and walked to the Public School playground to hunt for Easter eggs and play on the equipment.

Day campers participated in party games, card making, cupcake making, decorating and eating as, you guessed it, they celebrated Birthdays. It was daycamp leader Alisha’s birthday that day, so many of the kids made her a card. To top the party fun off, the kids got to swim at the pool for the afternoon.

Stay tuned next week as we recap Nature week and all the fun interested things we have planned
