Superior North CFDC Annual General Meeting 2013
TERRACE BAY, ON – Wednesday, June 12th, the Superior North Community Futures Development Corporation (SNCFDC) held its Annual General Meeting at their regional office at 7 Mill road. The event included a review of 2012, two new program announcements and a look back at the past 25 years as Superior North CFDC celebrates its Silver Anniversary. Anne-Marie Bourgeault, General Manager along with Board Chair Michael Beno, welcomed guests and members to the event. M. Beno presented a message from the Board, followed by a report from the General Manager outlining accomplishments in 2012 at SNCFDC. Ms. Bourgeault also presented a brief retrospective on the last 25 years of history at SNCFDC as the organization celebrates its Silver Anniversary. Tiffany Carlin, Community Economic Development Officer, read a message from Minister Tony Clement, Industry Canada and FedNor. Ms. Carlin also presented Michael Beno, Board Chair, with a plaque from FedNor recognizing the 25 Years of Service in the Community Futures Program. SNCFDC staff also presented information on two new programs. Superior North Spotlight and the Northern Ontario Youth Entrepreneur Initiative.
Superior North Spotlight is a re-launch of the SNCFDC’s former regional business directory with a new look and new name. The online directory includes businesses, organizations, municipalities, things to do and much more with features like Google maps, email contact, detailed listing information and contact information. This online directory encompasses listings from the communities of Dorion through to Manitouwadge. The launch of Superior North Spotlight as an Apple App for Iphone, Ipod and Ipad was also highlighted though the formal launch is planned for next month (July 2013); keep reading OntarioNewsNorth.com for full details as they are released.
Northern Ontario Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative. Cindy Reasbeck, Program Coordinator for the Northern Ontario Youth Entrepreneurship Program, was on hand to introduce the newest member of the Superior North staff, Travis McArthur. Mr. McArthur wasrecently hired to fill the role of Youth Entrepreneurship Coordinator for the Superior North Region. His presentation explained the program highlighting the various components that will be available to the region’s youth, starting as early asthe grade three level with programing for various ages through to the high school grades. This program will be delivered throughout the entire Superior North region.
The formal Annual General Meeting followed with a review of the financial statements, election of officers and a question and answer session. The evening was also an opportunity for networking with guests and members, some of whom traveled from as far as Manitouwadge and Dorion.
